5 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Despair about Being Single on Valentine's Day

Are you single and have no one to spend Valentine's Day with? You don't have to feel bad or pathetic about it. And you shouldn't mind the teasing and bullying you might get. Let me tell you a not-so-secret secret: Being single on Valentine's Day is awesome too. Don't believe me? Here are why.
Reason #1: You don't have to make do with a single valentine.
I'm sure you're not the only person without a romantic partner on Valentine's Day. Gather your family and friends and have a group date instead. I'm sure it'll be more fun. And your dates won't have very high expectations as to how your date would go. You can go to the beach or to the park... it doesn't matter. What matters is you'll spend the day with the people you love.

Not really what I have in mind, but could be fun too.

In Keeping with Tradition, Here Are My New Year's Resolutions

I suppose it's tradition to have New Year's resolutions. I don't really put much stock on this tradition of sorts but everyone (and that's including me) has to have something he or she wants to change, right? And what better time to think of things I resolve to do or change than the time when everyone else is also doing it.

So, here are some of the things I'd really love to do or happen this year.

7 Medical Conditions and the Lies Told about Them

Back in the day (aka my childhood), mothers and older people I knew usually relied on personal experience and information gotten from their parents and other well-meaning people to cure common illnesses. The thing is, because there wasn’t Google then, people had no way of verifying—without seeing a doctor—if those passed-on information were true. And because they believe the information to be true, they usually spread on the misconceptions.

Below are some of the medical conditions I heard people around me told lies about at one time or another while I was growing up.
 Liar!

7 Deadly Bacteria that Could Be in Your Soil

Soil is host to different kinds of bacteria. And while some are helpful because they help recycle natural elements and compounds, make the soil rich and fertile, and speed up decomposition, living alongside them are the pathogenic kinds. Because bacteria are not visible to the naked eyes, we won’t know if the soil in our garden or in our yard is teeming with them. Perhaps this the reason why parents don’t want their children to play in the mud?

Below are 7 deadly bacteria that could be present in your soil.

1. Burkholderia pseudomallei

Perm Basics for First-Timers

Getting a perm is a decision that is deceptively easy to make. If you’re a first-timer and you have virgin hair, you’re right to worry. After all, your hair could be damaged, and fixing it would mean additional expenses and even more worry. Before you sit yourself on a salon chair and let a hairstylist get to your hair with perming solution, ask yourself first if you’re ready for whatever the outcome may be. Several women have gone inside a salon with the vision of a fabulous outcome only to be disappointed with the result.

Here are some things you need to know before you get your hair permed.

Traditional perm vs. digital perm.
You can get either a traditional perm or a digital perm. The former only requires the use of a perming solution and curling rollers while the latter requires the use of a machine, which will apply heat to your hair.  Digital perm is more expensive than traditional perm and not every beauty salon performs it.

PTB Facts: Things You Need to Know

What is PTB?
Pulmonary Tuberculosis (PTB) is a contagious disease of the lungs caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Although the bacteria generally affect the lungs, they also affect other areas such as the spine, the kidneys, and the brain. To differentiate, tuberculosis of the lungs is referred to as pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) and the tuberculosis in other areas as extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB). PTB is more common.

So You Have Cold Sores. Now What?

You wake up one morning feeling a tingling sensation on your lip. A few hours later, you found blisters on the same spot and they are quite painful. If you've already had this experience, you probably already know what is happening to you right from the moment you felt the tingling and is already dreading the next few days or weeks. If not, you're in for a rude awakening—you've got cold sores.
